NORTHAMPTON: Travis Perkins' plumbing, heating, kitchens and joinery divisions are using Mercedes-Benz chassis cabs, with lightweight Luton bodies built by the Bevan Group.

Previously Travis used Mercedes-Benz long-wheelbase Sprinter 313CDI panel vans.

Liam Holland, Travis Perkins' group transport operations manager said: "We've specified Lutons this time to reflect the different profiles of the products we have to carry."

"Some, such as oil-fuelled boilers, are very heavy, and the chassis cab allows us to fit a tail-lift while still retaining a decent payload."

Travis Perkins has also bought 19 Fuso Canters from Intercounty Truck & Van during 2010, and has taken a further seven this year with eight more on order.

The 3.5-tonne Canter 3C13s have alloy dropside bodies and are used by the group's Keyline heavy building and construction materials division to deliver tools and equipment.
