ELLESMERE PORT: Two thieves were prevented from taking a till from B&Q when staff member fended them off with a bar code scanner.
Last Monday the two men entered B&Q, at Station Road, Ellesmere Port, brandishing a screwdriver, crowbar and a claw hammer leaving their car outside with the engine running and the lights on.
The men began to break into one of the tills when staff member Jerry Willet, who is in his 50s, confronted them, striking one of the men across the head with a barcode scanner.
The man fell to the ground and both offenders fled the store and made off in their car without managing to steal anything.
Alan Evans, store manager said: "It was late at night so there were not many people in the store. Everyone was amazed by the bravery of Jerry. They were all talking about it and could not believe how courageous he was."
