SEVENOAKS: H+H UK has recently become one of the first manufacturers in the UK to be awarded BSEN 16001 – the latest European standard to focus specifically on energy efficiency.
It has also achieved the British Standards Institute Energy Reduction Validation (ERV) Kitemark scheme for demonstrating reductions in carbon emissions.
To meet the requirements of the standard, H+H had to demonstrate a reduction in energy use year-on-year, showing a robust method of calculation to back up the figures and a real commitment to continuing improvements. The requirement for ERV compliance is to demonstrate a minimum 2.5% carbon reduction, but H+H actually achieved a 7.5% reduction for 2009/2010 compare to the preceding two years.
“We believe that certification to the BSEN 16001 standard and ERV compliance provide the most precise focus on energy efficiency,” sums up H+H’s project manager Gary Thwaites. “At H+H our commitment to reducing our carbon emissions is not in doubt, and we decided that this European wide standard provided the most comprehensive and effective process for evaluating and demonstrating the effectiveness of our energy policy.”
