SALFORD: Kevin Whiteley, chairman of Pilkington's Tiles, has died unexpectedly aged 68.Mr Whiteley has been involved in the ceramics industry since the 1960s. In 2004, he led the consortium that bought Pilkington's in a £3.1m deal returning the loss making business to the profit in 2007.

SALFORD: Kevin Whiteley, chairman of Pilkington's Tiles, has died unexpectedly aged 68.

Mr Whiteley has been involved in the ceramics industry since the 1960s. In 2004, he led the consortium that bought Pilkington's in a £3.1m deal returning the loss making business to the profit in 2007.

 

The firm said Mr Whiteley had made "an immense contribution" to the ceramics industry, establishing trading links across Europe.

Ray Tarr, chief executive said: "Kevin was a larger than life character and, for those that knew him, had a wicked sense of humour. He was highly respected by his contemporaries."

"He will be greatly missed by us all. Our thoughts are with Kevin's family at this time."

Mr Whiteley leaves his wife Val, a son and two daughters.
