HULL: MKM Building Supplies reports a 17% increase in turnover, up £20m to 140m for the year ending September 2008 writes Contract Journal.
Pre-tax profit was £300 000, down on the 2007 figure of £3.3m. The directors annual report said: "Operating profits for the year grew despite the number of new branches opened, which are typically loss-making in their first year of operation."
During the latest financial year MKM opened six branches in Hartlepool, Norwich, Retford, Ripon, Stockton and York, increasing its sites to 33.
MKM co-founded the LIMA buying consortium which has yielded purchasing benefits for the company the director said. MKM's performance was helped by limited exposure to national house builders.
