Housebuilders also rallied: Barratt Developments and Bovis Homes up 33/4p to 903/4p and 181/4p to 4163/4p, Redrow added 6p to 139p and Persimmon was up 161/4p to 4261/4p.
In Dublin, the Iseq index rose 10 points with building materials group CRH, the largest component stock on the index, closing flat at 15.57 euros. Today is the last full day's trading on the Iseq, with just a half-day session on New Year's Eve.
