SWEDEN: Jarl Timber will reduce its production from two shifts to one shift as of 1 August. The reduced production leads to about half of its 60 employees becoming redundant.
"During the past 9-11 months the raw material prices have not reflected the sawn and planed timber prices and we are forced to adjust the production to sustainable raw material availability in the region," said Kjell Gabrielsson, Jarl Timber's managing director.
The company currently produces an annual output of about 130 000 m3 of spruce and pine timber which are sold to Europe and North Africa.
"We have looked at all possible alternatives but unfortunately the cut in production and redundancies are inevitable," added Sampsa Auvinen, chief executive officer of Norvik Timber Industries, Jarl's parent company.
