ILKLEY: Merchants will be offered incentive packages including a trip to a football match in Barcelona, European and Caribbean cruises and a trip to Sharm El Sheikh.

Richard Murphy, managing director of business incentive trip provider First Event, said a UK-based construction company, which he declined to name, has appointed the company to run several incentives over a two-year period following a competitive pitch.

The business is worth £350 000 annually to First Event and is aimed at builders' merchants and other clients of the firm.

"The incentive market is really picking up after a three-month period in which enquiries dropped off and there were some cancellations," said Mr Murphy.

"At the moment, we have 13 incentive briefs awaiting confirmation, and they include trips to Hong Kong and Euro Disney."

Many clients, particularly those in the financial services industry, put incentives on hold for a year to 18 months and have now received permission to resurrect their programmes.

"June 2010 to June 2011 will be a fantastic year for incentive business," Mr Murphy said.
