UK: Mortgage approval volumes are rising as the banks ease up and start lending again.

 

Housebuilder Bovis reporter signs of an uplift from the housing market. It said conditions were improving and that it anticipates greater price stability in 2010.

This view was echoed by Barratt. It reported that new buyers were coming back to the market. Persimmon said its order books looked healthy, but warned that there were "significant concerns" about mortgage finance and the high levels of unemployment throughout the UK.
