UK: The AA has reported that in December petrol prices overtook the record set in May this year and continued to climb heading into the Christmas period.

Diesel prices are also following the same track, reflecting the rise in oil prices above $90 a barrel.

Unleaded prices have risen by 3.0p/litre from 119.1p/litre to 122.1p/litre.  Diesel prices have also risen, by 3.2p/litre from  123.0p/litre 126.2p/litre. The price difference between unleaded and diesel has risen to 4.1p/litre, the AA said.

London and the South East recorded the highest  price for unleaded at 122.7p/litre.

Yorkshire and Humberside recorded the lowest price for unleaded at 121.2p/litre.

Wales and Scotland recorded the highest diesel price at 126.7p/litre. Yorkshire and Humberside have the cheapest diesel at 125.4p/litre.
