MALDON: Dorval Construction Ltd called in administrators, PFK, this week, with the loss of 19 jobs. The directors blamed the poor construction climate and public spending cuts for the company's failure.

The building contractor had been in business for more than 23 years, covering Suffolk, North East London, and Essex. Director, Robert Vallis said that the administrators had chosen not to work on any existing contracts.

Construction work on six projects has been suspended, including a bakery, two homes, an almshouse, and work at Newport Free Grammar School in Saffron Walden and Alton Park Primary School in Clacton-on-Sea.

Joint administrator at PKF David Merrygold said that Dorval had, "no future, which is typical of the construction industry at the moment."
