UK: Research from NetRegs shows that 95% of large construction companies will give preference to sub-contractors who can prove their green credentials.
The survey revealed that in times of oversupply, large contractors with a turnover in excess of £10m would use a sub-contractor's environmental credentials as a key factor when deciding how to award contracts.
The results also highlighted that 87% of large construction companies have more confidence in sub-contractors with proven green credentials.
Around 76% said a reduced risk of prosecution was a deciding factor.
Over half of the respondents said they believed that green policies would save sub-contractors.
NetRegs, the free environmental legislation guidance website, launched a campaign to help smaller construction companies understand the importance of environmental compliance, and to highlight the opportunities that going green can offer. It also developed an eight-point checklist to give sub-contractors the best possible chance of winning business in a competitive tender. See the website.
