HILLINGTON: Staff from the Hillington branch of local plumbers' merchant Graham, strapped on their hiking boots recently to climb Ben Lomand – raising more than £1100 for Barnardo's, the charity that supports over 100 000 children, young people and their families every year.

The team of seven took four hours to climb the 3196ft peak, which is the most southerly of the Munro mountains and is situated on the eastern banks of Loch Lomond.

The climb was organised by Robert Haining, branch manager at Graham Hillington, who said: “It was certainly a challenge but the whole team showed a sense of gritty determination and mustered on to the end. We’re really pleased with the fantastic support that everyone has given us and are happy to do our bit for such a worthwhile cause.”

Barnardo's is Graham's charity of choice, as part of its ‘together’ charity programme, which also involves Graham's sister building distribution companies. Since its launch in 2002 this programme has raised almost £2 million for worthy causes including Help the Hospices, the British Heart Foundation, Great Ormond Street and Cancer Research UK.

The programme encourages Graham staff, their families, customers and suppliers to organise and participate in a range of activities to support the nominated charity through fundraising and volunteering.
