THE MIDLANDS: Birmingham's New Street train station is to get a major revamp, as plans for a £600m project have been submitted to the city's council.

The first part of the project will see the new concourse built on a former car park next to the station. The second part will see the current concourse shut for redevelopment.

The project is expected to be completed in 2015.

According to Jo Kaye, route director for Network Rail: "Our plans for New Street will enhance the growing reputation of Birmingham and improve the travelling experience for the millions of passengers who use the station every year."
